Winter Garden, FL

I recently explored the cutest little town lined with beautiful trees, brick buildings and wrap around porches. Home of the fabulous Crooked Can and Plant Street Market, it is truly a hidden gem. And the best part? This time I didn’t have to travel very far from home! Winter Garden is only about 30 minutes outside of Orlando.

*Quick side note: if you have ever visited Orlando and only stayed near Disney/Universal, you are missing out on the real Orlando! You have to check out Lake Eola where the Sunday Farmer’s Market is amazing and you can pet all the doggos. Lake Nona is an up and coming area with a whole outside bar area made out of shipping containers and some of my favorite restaurants in Orlando! Not to mention Park Ave. in Winter Park, Baldwin Park and so many more places that tourists don’t know about.

My roommate/sister/bff (shoutout @hannah_hoffman95 ;)) and I ventured into town for the annual Crooked Can Oktoberfest. It was complete with bratwurst stands, dachshund races and plenty of good beer. It would have been so much more enjoyable if it wasn’t 1000 degrees outside but hey, it’s Florida so I guess I couldn’t be too surprised.

We started at Plant Street Market where there are SO many amazing food options. From BBQ to sushi, to a donut stand, absolutely everyone can find something delicious here. My personal favorite was Morthan Cheese. I spotted the 13 pound Raclette cheese wheels the second we walked in and was so intrigued. I have seen so many videos of the melted Raclette cheese at restaurants in NYC and never thought that they would have something like that here! I had the grilled chicken sandwich with the famous melted cheese on top and it did not disappoint. Even if you’re not a big cheese fan (lol who are you??) I recommend just watching them scrape the cheese over all of the dishes. It is therapeutic.

Hannah also swore by the mac and cheese from Mac’d Out, another unique food stand at the market. The pasta is fresh and you can customize it exactly how you like it. What can I say? I guess we are just some pretty cheesy people…. (lol I had to).

Seriously though, if you’re local to Orlando and have never spent a Saturday afternoon on the lawn at Crooked Can or a Friday night on the rooftop patio at The Whole Enchilada, you’re missing out. Just look at how charming these pics are!

Get out and try something new!
